Project Scope:
Located 415 kilometers west of Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman, Safah field contains 640 million barrels of oil-in-place and 62 billion cubic feet of gas cap. The field is divided into East and West lobes. The East lobe is subdivided into Northeast and Southeast lobes. The Northeast lobe contains saturated oil with gas cap and the Southeast lobe has under saturated oil. To arrest reservoir pressure decline and to improve oil recovery, two associated gas injection projects are currently underway in the East lobe.
Water injection or water flooding refers to the method in the oil industry where water is injected into the reservoir, usually to increase pressure and thereby stimulate production. Water injection wells can be found both on and offshore to increase oil recovery from an existing reservoir.
